We’ve been there. We’ve done that.
Why Us?
We’ve worked at start-ups, small companies, and hyper-growth organizations. We’ve seen the promise, and we’ve seen the pitfalls. We know what founders can and have done to inspire employees to give everything they have and everything they are to the cause … and we’ve seen leaders erode the culture, lose their following, and get themselves and the company in trouble. We’ve seen it all…
We believe in the magic that exists at small companies, start-ups, and hyper-growth organizations. There is a je ne sais quoi that happens when employees are firing on all cylinders, pushing towards the same goal, and zealous about what they’re doing, how they’re doing it, and who they’re doing it for.
When we focus intentional attention on to our culture, the possibilities are endless.
We provide solutions that actually work.
This is not HR reminiscent of the Industrial Revolution. We are upping the game when it comes to the “people stuff,” so it’s relevant for today’s employee, modernized for the workplace of the 21st century, and … wait for it … actually works. Too often, HR offers programs and initiatives that look good on paper but lack the stickiness to make real change. That’s not our jam.
In fact, if we don’t show measurable improvement, you don’t pay.
Here’s an example.
“Outsourced CPO…” That’s what the employees called their part-time, fractional head of HR. But to them, this was a person who was readily available, provided them impromptu coaching, gave them a recruiting strategy when they needed one, led their team offsites, and served as someone who supported them, while challenging them to be even better…to lead even more effectively…to perform at even higher levels.
The ORCA
You may be wondering “what’s with the whale reference?” Well, we feel that the Orca “whale” (fun fact, it’s actually a dolphin) represents us in the context of this type of work pretty well. For example…
Orcas are among the fastest - and smartest - animals in the world; in order to do this work well, we need to move quickly and smartly.
Next to humans, they are the most wide-ranging mammal on the planet; in order to do this work well, we need to look across the entire organization, not just at one piece.
They have their own ‘languages;’ in order to do this work well, we need to speak the language of the business - not corporate jargon BS.
They rely on their pods for survival; in order to do this work well, it requires us to get the buy-in and contributions of everyone, not just one or two folks
The female orca is the matriarch, providing sage wisdom to the younger members of the pod; well, we’re ladies…and we’d like to think we have some wisdom to impart.
